The market of Christmas accomodates you of
the 27/11 to the 30/12 on the "place du marché" in LiÈge

PRESENTATION

During four weeks, 190 cabins welcome the promenaders and proposes them numerous present ideas (attires, creche figures, toys, little articles that can be put under the Chrismas tree) of Walloon and French handicraft. Furthermore, various Chrismas decorations (globes, garlands, creches, greeting cards, firecrackers) and all sorts of delicious things for degustation (marzipan, salted treats, black pudding, mulled wine, Chrismas beers, coffee, champagne, oysters, chocolate, gingerbread…) are offered.

The “Village de Noël » integrates perfectly in the dynamism of Liège, the city of Chrismas, to become the Latin capital of Chrismas festivities. In this context, the “Village de Noël” collaborates with all the shops located in the center and numerous other animations: the Chrismas skating rink, the European circus festival…

Entering its third decade, the Village de Noel (Christmas Village) invites Thuringe, birthplace of German markets, and offers original Christmas baubles!

Twinning with Thuringe and Erfurt Christmas Market : Erfurt Christmas Market, capital of Thuringe (formerly East Germany) is one of the oldest and most beautiful in Germany. Birthplace of Christmas traditions, the Erfurt region is rich in typical seasonal handcrafts: baubles and decorations in blown-glass, wooden figurines, nutcrackers and smoke dispensers, porcelain objects, gingerbread houses…This year the Village de Noel is twinned with Erfurt Christmas Market: 4 chalets from Thuringe will be present at the heart of the village with Thuringe’s typical Christmas handcrafts and several gastronomic specialities. A delegation from Erfurt will be invited to Liege, whilst the Village de Noel will dispatch an envoy to Thuringe, with the goal of strengthening ties between the two regions, and to organise 2008’s grand “Thuringe – Guest of Honour” project, with numerous economic, cultural and folklore-based developments…
Thuringe’s presence will without doubt greatly enhance the Village de Noel’s magical beauty.

A “Gift Idea” – Liege Folklore Characters as “Christmas Baubles”! : The Village de Noel welcomes a particularly original novelty; a chalet will be dedicated to displaying Liege and Walloon folklore characters, in the form of Christmas baubles to hang on your tree. Genuine works of art, handcrafted in Poland following the designs dreamt up by a creative Liege couple, the characters are made in the old style, that is to say glass-blown and hand painted! Tchantchès, Nanesse, Charlemagne, the Sorcerer-Kings, the Miner and the Coal-Bearer Maid will festoon countless Christmas trees this winter!

A real Ardennes Cottage at the heart of the Village : A spectacular attraction at the heart of the Village, a genuine Ardennes Cottage invites you to taste the best Walloon specialities of Chimay, starting with the famous beer and accompanying regional cheese. Conceived by well-known Liege inventor, Gilles Falisse, the cottage has walls built with the actual rough-stone hewn from the Ourthe valley, and has an open fire in the interior, how better to spend a calm moment of conviviality and gastronomy in the heart of the Village!

The Giant Sledge -Slope – second year : A spectacular occurrence will mark this edition, for the second year running, the erection of a real Sledge-Slope, close to ten metres high on the flagstones of the Place Saint Lambert, with a magical snow-white illuminated décor. On this slope, with sledges supplied onsite, the young and not so young can rediscover the joy of sledging in historic surroundings and whilst sliding down can admire the illuminated frontage of the Prince Bishop’s Palace. The less adventurous will be content with a spicy hot wine at the foot of the slope, admiring the exploits of the bold daredevils scaling the dizzy heights above.
